About chapter power committees

The union power committee concept was envisioned to engage members at the local level. Here's how some chapters engage members through power committees:

  1. Chapter presidents appoint the chapter's power committee and chair person.

  2. Chapter committees create plans to mobilize at the local level on critical issues such as contract negotiations, budget messages, fighting privatization, protecting civil service rights and other local issues identified by chapter leaders.

  3. Members are invited to participate in a variety of union building activities to amplify OCSEA's collective voice.

Successful power committees engage many different volunteers in a variety of activities, so the same handful of people are not carrying all of the burden alone.

Local leaders say it's helpful to recruit members who are willing to share information and understand the concerns of fellow chapter members.
