Elections Procedures
Your online center for references, forms, and more

This manual has been developed to help subordinate bodies conduct elections in accordance with the AFSCME Constitution, OCSEA Constitution and By-Laws and the AFSCME Election Manual.

Elections Procedures Get the Free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view PDFs on the OCSEA website.

The basic steps for conducting an election in a subordinate body include the following, each of which is covered by a specific fact sheet in this series:

  1. Notice to all members of the nominations and election
  2. How to conduct nominations
  3. The election committee's role and responsibilities
  4. Eligibility to run for office
  5. Voting and tallying the ballots
  6. Post election procedures
  7. Sample ballot

Other resources

Be sure to consult the AFSCME Election Manual, AFSCME Constitution, OCSEA Constitution and By-Laws, and your subordinate body's constitution (or the uniform Subordinate Body Constitution if your subordinate body does not have one). Where the OCSEA Constitution or By-Laws conflict with the AFSCME Constitution, the OCSEA language prevails.

Your OCSEA Board Member and your staff representative can also help answer questions about how to conduct an election.
