Deadlines are approaching for the Union Leaders of the Future Scholarship, the Jerry Clark Memorial Scholarship, and the Joey Parisi Scholarship.

Floyd Memorial Scholarship:

AFSCME Education and Leadership Training Dept. offers four annual scholarships to staff and members who want to increase their leadership skills and obtain a degree from the National Labor College in Silver Springs, MD. Family Scholarship
Deadline: Dec. 31
Offers $2,000 renewable scholarships to 13 high school seniors each year. Must be a son, daughter, or financially dependent grandchild of an active or retired AFSCME member.

AFSCME/UNCF: Union Scholars Program:
Deadline: Feb. 28
For college students of color majoring in Ethnic Studies, Women’s Studies, Labor Studies, American Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, History, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, Economics, or Public Policy. Includes a stipend of up to $4,000; on-site housing at your location; a week-long training orientation; and an academic scholarship of up to $5,000 for upcoming school year. Completed applications must be submitted by midnight on Feb. 28, 2008, to be considered.

Jerry Wurf Memorial Fund:
DEADLINE Nov. 3, 2008.
Next Session: Jan. 12 - Feb. 20, 2009.
Provides three scholarships for the six week Harvard Trade Union Program for full-time AFSCME staff planning a career in the trade union movement or an AFSCME member holding an elected position who is willing to take leave. It is conducted at the Harvard campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and is organized around the theme "Preparing Leadership for the Challenges of the Future." Union Leaders of the Future Scholarship

Embracing its mission to enhance the value of union membership and support a stronger labor movement, Union Privilege has developed a scholarship program to help more women and people of color become union leaders. The program provides annual awards up to $3,000 to help future leaders with the cost of continuing their education or training in order to pursue their union career goals and leadership skills. Patricia Callanan-Castro Scholarship
DEADLINE: April 30.
This new scholarship was established by OCSEA District Council 1 in memory of Pat Callanan-Castro. A long-time union activist, Pat's passion for working families, lifelong learning and reading impacted her children, co-workers, and community. In honor of her commitment to education, the scholarship fund is earmarked to help union members who have returned to school with the purchase of books.
